The Illnesses Have Started!

In order to help prevent the spread of illness at school, we need YOUR HELP. If your child has a fever, vomits, or has diarrhea during the evening or night, DO NOT send your child to school the next day. Often the symptoms return and the child will be sent home. In the meantime, he/she has exposed other students and the teachers to unwanted germs and viruses.

When to return to school:
  • Keep all children home for a full 24 hours after symptoms of illness have SUBSIDED.
  • Children sent home with a temperature of 100 or higher, or sent home due to vomiting or diarrhea must stay home the following day. Fevers must be gone for 24 hours WITHOUT the aid of medication (Tylenol, motrin).
Antibiotics:
  • If children are prescribed an antibiotic (for strep, pink-eye, etc) they must take it for 24 hours before returning to school. A medication authorization form must be filled out by the child's doctor before antibiotics can be taken at school. (The medication authorization form can be found on Northview's website under "AT a Glance" - health room).
Students Staying Inside from Recess or Excused from PE
  • Parents may request that their child be permitted to remain inside during recess or excused from gym class following a recent illness or injury for up to three days.  If it is necessary for the student to be excluded for longer than three days, a note from your child's physician will be required.  A note from a doctor limiting physical activity will apply to both PE and recess.
Recess During Extreme Temperatures
  • Students should come prepared to go outside for recess.  However, as a general guideline, if the temperature/wind chill is 25 degrees (or less), students may have a shortened outdoor recess period or recess will be held indoors.  When the heat index is 95 degrees or greater, students may have a shortened outdoor recess period or recess will be held indoors.
